The Rayong Ladies Circle supports many welfare projects that are close to the hearts of its members.
The two most important ones are probably Khun Tiew's Quilting Project, where young women are taught quilting skills with the aim of teaching them a skill where they can provide for themselves in the future.
And the Bakery Project, where young girls are being taught basic baking skills, again trying to teach them a skill that will make them independent one day.
Each year towards the end of May the RLC holds it annual Bazaar. This is our main fund-raising event for the year and all proceeds are used to assist those in need in the local area, in particular, underprivileged Thai families and children. The Bazaar has become one of the highlights of our club’s calendar as it affords members and their friends the opportunity to buy many wonderful handicrafts and gifts. Shopping is done in air conditioned comfort and refreshments are available throughout the day. A continuous raffle and lucky door prize also help to make this a great day out.
Every year at Songkran (April), RLC members fill post boxes with small presents which are then distributed to children in the local community whose families are socially disadvantaged. Tha Ban Chang Hospital hands out lists with names and ages of such children and each member who wants to participate can pick one child and fill it with some gifts. All who attended the distribution were given gifts as well in the forms of smiles and gratitude that filled our hearts.
Every year there is some hardship amongst the parents of some children attending government schools regarding the payment of the obligatory school uniform and books. The RLC tries to support some of these parents by purchasing the necessary items for them.
